case study / domain investing brand
A brand built on holding on principle.
DnBlackbook is Trilot LLC’s domain-investing brand — a working course and community for domain investors, and the best-selling domaining course of its year. An evergreen v2 is launching before 2026 year end.
The brief
DnBlackbook started inside the portfolio, not beside it. Trilot has been registering domain names since 1999 — bought on instinct, held on principle, renewed through long stretches where nothing happened at all. Of the thousands registered since, a small handful paid for the rest.
That is a teachable craft, with a specific audience: people who buy domain names as an investment and then live with them. Trilot’s domains page is explicit that it is not a marketplace or a sales catalog. Instead it points anyone who wants to learn the craft at DnBlackbook — a working course and community for domain investors.
The awkward part is that the discipline is mostly waiting. What built the portfolio was not a run of inspired picks; it was holding through silence while time did the work. A course about this craft has to teach the waiting as carefully as the picking.
What we did
We built DnBlackbook as a brand in its own right — a course, a community, and a separate surface from trilot.com — and it now sits alongside LogicOfLogic and Trilot as one of the three brands under Trilot LLC.
- A course, written by an operator who has done it. The material comes from names registered since 1999 and held through the years that followed.
- A community alongside the course. Domain investing is played over years; the room around the material is part of the product.
- Its own brand, under the same LLC. DnBlackbook runs separately from Trilot's service business, with no obligation to cross-sell either way.
- A handoff from the portfolio. The Trilot domains page sends anyone who wants to learn the craft to DnBlackbook. That page shows the work; this brand teaches it.
- An evergreen v2 in build. The second edition is in progress, launching before 2026 year end.
The separation is deliberate. A course for domain investors has a different customer, rhythm and cost base from a six-month software engagement, and is allowed to be exactly what it is.
What shipped
The course has shipped and the brand is live: DnBlackbook is the best-selling domaining course of its year, and it is where Trilot sends learners who arrive through the domains page.
The second edition is a plan with a date, not a shipped fact. An evergreen v2 is in build and launching before 2026 year end. The full LogicOfLogic brand site — Trilot’s AI advisory brand — is scheduled to launch alongside it in late 2026. Both dates are published; the work behind them is in progress now.
The portfolio material stays where it belongs. The domains page shows a selection by extension and stops there; the teaching happens on DnBlackbook, under its own brand.
What it proves
The multi-brand structure earns its keep here. Trilot LLC operates three brands, and the reason is not decoration: a domain-investing course and a software practice have different customers, different cadences and different P&Ls. Keeping them apart means neither has to pretend to be the other, and neither is obliged to cross-sell.
It also shows what a portfolio can be for. The domains page is a record, not a storefront, and what it hands off to is teaching rather than a listing — someone who wants to learn the craft is sent to a course, not a checkout.
And a brand can carry a long argument. The subject of DnBlackbook is patience, and its own history is the illustration: a first domain bought in 1999 and still owned, years before the course existed to explain why.
Engagement notes
DnBlackbook is not a client engagement. It is a brand Trilot LLC owns and operates, run as a product rather than a service — its own audience, its own launch dates, its own P&L, and no obligation to feed the consulting side of the business.
In the service list, the closest line is web & software development: a course and community is a platform with content, accounts and a surface that keeps working after launch. The brand itself sits outside the five offerings — domain investing lives under its own brand.
If you are building a product under your own name, the shape is the shape you would get: brand decisions, a build, a date written down, and a launch the operator is personally accountable for. If the subject is domain names, start with the portfolio page.
Sourcing: DnBlackbook is Trilot LLC’s own brand, not a client project. What is described here as shipped has shipped; v2 and the LogicOfLogic launch are stated plans with stated dates. No sales, revenue or enrollment figures are published — and none are claimed.
